CEO of BeatMob Productions/ Musicians
An encounter with Keith “Bubby” Webb’s music is like having a bowl of piping hot gumbo—you get a variety of flavors! He can fuse R&B, jazz, hip-hop, rock, and gospel—or use them one at a time. Bubby is a funky drummer, organic keyboardist, soulful composer, bumpin’ producer, and a master recording engineer who is bound to have you lining up for seconds.
Drumming started it all. He was inspired by his father, Johnny Borders, Jr. (former drummer of Orange Lake Drive), and his uncle, Larry Webb, who was also a percussionist. From age five, Bubby would accompany his father to all the rehearsals and gigs he could. He even sat in from time to time and played a song or two with his dad’s band. His uncle made sure he listened to great jazz drummers like Dennis Chambers and Dave Weckl. His father’s very powerful musical style often reminded him of a thunderstorm or a stampede of wild horses. On the other hand, the way his uncle tapped his drums was smooth, slick and full of finesse. He chose to echo both until he was thirteen years old.
A year later, when he was introduced to the keyboard, he started to come into his own. Sequencing and sampling took his mind by storm and sent him into the world of music production. Although he did not have his own synthesizer, he would go to Logic Sound, the only studio in his hometown of Pontiac, Michigan to compose his songs. He mastered the Roland D-20 by the time he turned sixteen. Then, he formed Beatmob Productions with his friend, Frank “B-Nice” Williams. Frank’s mom financed their first keyboard. Bubby made the beats and Frank came up with the samples. Beatmob produced one of the first hip-hop jazz tracks for a horn player named Quincy Stewart. Bubby has also produced tracks for hip-hop heavyweights Redman and Slum Village. Most recently, he produced the single “Forever and a Day” for Universal Motown R&B recording artist, Suai, which helped her get signed to that label. He has also collaborated with Stevie J., a producer from Bad Boy Entertainment, and many others. In addition, Bubby has toured as a drummer in the United States and abroad with artists such as Dwele, Slum Village, Calvin Richardson, Jaguar Wright, Kindred the Family Soul, The Temptations, and soul legend Charles Walker.
In 2009 Bubby released a smooth jazz compilation which was a follow-up to his 2005 debut hip-hop CD entitled Bubby Bub Project: Make It Go which sold well over 6K copies. These were followed by The Journey in 2010 and Groove Station Café in 2014 both which enjoyed some success. He toured with George Benson, Bernard Wright, Next, James Carter and many other legends.
Currently, he is transforming his production company into an independent music label. His desire is to share his natural born talent with the new up and rising stars of his community through what he has learned in his long career in the music business.
